1965 oldsmobile rear pinion seal
Hello everyone I may need some assistance. I have a 1965 oldsmobile dynamic 88 convertible with a limited slip differential and having a hard time finding a pinion seal. Though i see listings i keep getting the wrong seals they are a tad smaller. Has anyone else had an issue trying to get the correct seal or any information where i can order the correct seal would be appreciated. If so could you send me Any information to my email address Hermandolison@yahoo.com I would be thankful.

Try Fusick. Measure what you have and contact them, phone call, etc. They speak the Oldsmobile language.

Your car came from the factory with the Pontiac-sourced 8.875" rear axle with a ten bolt cover and a 12 bolt ring gear. The 1965 seal is different from the 1966-up seal.
1965 used seal P/N 9778370, which is 2 7/8" OD and 1 15/16" ID
1966-up used seal P/N 404294, which is 2 3/4" OD and 1 15/16" ID
SKF 19310 and BCA NS472144 look to be a correct replacements. All the other seals shown as replacements for 9778370 are only 2 13/16" OD and will be too small. Note that the 1961-64 Olds full size cars also used 9778370 pinion seal, despite being a completely different axle.

I want to thank everyone on this site for the help and support on this issue. I finally secured the right seal and a Perfect fit. I could have not dine it otherwise in such a timely manner. I highly recommend this site to anyone and all for olds B body cars as well as others for hard to find parts and especially information from the experts on this site.

I have a timkin book and it does not even LIST a pinion seal for 65...lol.
It likely used the 9.3 thirrd member drop out seal from 1963 and 64 year. 19310 then in 1966 up it was the 2043 seal which is WAY more common. basically a 10 bolt 8.5 seal 8.2 pontiac 12 bolt olds seal
