Front spindle..

Hi everybody,
If you were to buy front spindle for a 71 442, where would you get them ?
Used or new ?
Are right and left the same ? 70 and 71 the same ?

Thank you

I can answer some of your questions. I would get good used knuckles if possible, this way you know the geometry is the same for this car. The left & right are different. If you look how the tie rod goes to each you will see they are not interchangeable and the brake caliper mounts will also be different locations. The 70 & 71 I would think would be the same.. But don't quote me on that however

Actually the spindle is the same left to right. The tie rod bracket and caliper bracket bolt on and are side specific. The drum spindles are different than disc though. Both are relatively easy to source used though.

Hey thanks for this info, I thought that GM did away with bolt on steering linkage in the last 60's,& as far as bolt on caliper mounts wow. I did not know this either. I must be used to newer car I guess.

Last GM car to use bolt on type spindle was the '74 X body. so early summer of '74 were the last to use that type of spindle that had "bolt on" steering arms. After that - everything was a "cast" or integral spindle.

The 1968-74 X-body cars, 67-69 F-body cars, and 1964-72 A-body cars all use the same
spindles.
