Dakaware ***** out of Chicago were the products originally used on the Hurst shifters.

Dual Gate ***** have no insert, although they could have used them. They just have molded 3/8-16 threads which tended to get stripped out over the years depending on previous ownership care. The threads started a slight bit deeper than the very end of the hole, however. Left about 1/8" or so of unthreaded hole before the threaded part started.

I used to have a copy of the Dakaware drawings for both the dual gate ***** and the Hurst Lightning Rods shifter *****. Now all I can find is the LR ***** drawing. The LR ***** are 1.94" across. I know that doesn't help much here, but that's all I got.

IIRC, the factory dual gate ***** in the 70-79 years were 1.72," or just shy of 1-3/4". I got an old original one off my 71 around here somewhere. If I find it, I'll measure it.

Yep, my original 1970 DG **** measures 1.708” and is smooth with no groove around the perimeter.

Sounds about right. The drawings say that unless otherwise specified, 2 decimal places have +/- 0.015" tolerance, three decmimal places would have +/- 0.005" tolerance on the measurments.
