68' 442!
Hello everybody, i just got my hands on a 68' 442 from a buddy of mine.
I picked up a slant 6 Duster a few weeks back b/c the price was right, i intended to flip it. I got her running nice, fixed the brakes, an all around good driver, still rough around the edges. A friend of mine mentioned he may be interested in it and asked how much i had into it. The next day he had an offer for me.
About a year ago i had a parts car 63' F85 my friends father let me keep at his house. Across the yard from where i had this parts car was this 442. Many years back (over 13 years back) a family friend of theirs had passed away, and left it to my friend b/c when my friend was a child he used to play in it and to pretend to drive it. At the point it was left to my friend, a good bit of damage was done to the drivers side door, and the motor and tranny have been removed. The car was brought to the house and thats where it has sat till now.
While over the house, i always mentioned i'd be willing to lend a hand to get the project going, but know one had the motivation or time, and i didn't feel compfortable asking to make an offer on the car b/c of how it was passed on to them.
So my friend asks me, "I know it needs a lot, but would you take the money you have into the duster, plus the 442?"
So i'll have pictures up soon, i'll probably have it at their house for a while longer, but i will start by trying to neutralize the rust and having the chassis in good rolling shape with brakes for ease of transport.
If anyone here is able to decode the Vin, i would love to know what i can tell about it from that.
-There is an olds 455 with it, 4 speed car but no transmission.
-It will likely need a passenger side door, and rust repair on lower quarters
-Intirior is very rough, mice have been in it, seats and head liner dont appear beyond hope yet, but very smelly and musty, probably missing bits and pieces
I have much to go through just for assesment purposes, going to be a long term project, if anyone has advice, good part sources, or info it's greatly appretiated, but hopefully this is the start of a dormant 442's second chance

Anyone know of a designation on any tags for which Engine came out, my friend says it was a 455, either way i intend on putting this 455 in, but just curious if it came with that or a 400, b/c ive heard some say only 400's available in 68 in 442s ex hursts, but im no historian and im sure people would ask for one if they could.

I'll have to go check, the car is actually still at my friends house. Im pretty sure this paticular 455 isn't the same that my friends dad claims was in it original, but he swears up and down it came with a 455, and my friend said years ago he found a build tag or ID number that confirmed it, which i have to go find out about, i just need time on a day that isn't raining like all my days off seem to end up.
