Gen Light 71 olds 442 w30

everything was fine...drove back from a car show today with my 71 olds 442 w30...had about 1 hour drive. all good. went to shutoff and the car choked itself off when i turned the key off...instead of a normal turn off. So I tried starting it back up and had to turn it hard for a bit, then pump gas to get it rough starting...then the gen light came on??
Took it for a ride and it runs fine, starts fine, but the light is still on???
I am not that mechanical...but welcoming thoughts.

You need to measure the voltage at the battery with the engine running, should be around 14.5 ish.

Unplug the alternator and start the car, if the light extinguishes the alternator is bad. Time for a rebuild. If your alternator is original DO NOT exchange it, get it rebuilt.

Good luck!!!

The alternator is very easy to rebuild especially if the bearings do not have to be replaced. Kits are available and are not expensive.
