They made a cutlass salon that had all those features. I had one that had everything a 442 would have except the dual exhaust and the 442 badges. Other then that it was the same car.

Mine also had T tops and my shifter was on the floor.

the Salons look different than the ordinary Cutlass, the back is kinda chopped off and slanted isn't it?

No, the 442, salon and the supreme all shared the same style. I'm pretty sure about this. The 442 and the salon had the rear wing on the trunk.

In 87 they also had the composite head lights.

You're thinking of the 78-80 cars. By 81, the slantback body had been dropped but the Salon name remained.

Goto photobucket (dot) com. This is a great place to store photos. After your pics are uploaded you can use the links for that pic for other forums.

That's just how I do it. There's other way I'm sure.

Your profile pic can only be a certain size. By using photobucket and copying the link to a forum this gives you the ability to have a large pic to show.

I just checked the VIN for my 87' Salon that I use to have. My 8th digit was also a Y.

But when I ran the VIN decoder I got this.

Year: 1987
Division: Oldsmobile
Series: Cutlass Salon Coupe
Body: 2 door Coupe / Sedan
Engine: 307 (5.0) V8 4BBL
Restraint Code: Active (Manual) Belts
Corporation: General Motors
Plant: Pontiac, Michigan
Serial Number:

If a Salon has a unique ID shouldn't a 442 be the same? I looked at ebay and ran VIN numbers from people selling a 87' 442 they all came back saying

Year: 1987
Division: Oldsmobile
Series: Cutlass Supreme
Body: 2 door Coupe / Sedan
Engine: 307 (5.0) V8 4BBL
Restraint Code: Active (Manual) Belts
Corporation: General Motors
Plant: Pontiac, Michigan
Serial Number:

Does any one have a real 442 from 1987. If so run your VIN. Does it say that it's a Series: Cutlass Supreme.

Why would a Salon have it' own series and not a 442?
