ISO: 1968 442 sports coupe
Just thought I would check to see if someone in the CO fam has this car:
1968 442 Sports Coupe - VIN 344778M137734
My father rebuilt a couple, bought a couple... and we still have his 69 W30; interestingly, in my paper chase I found an order for this 68. I just thought I would try to get this document to the owner of the car if it still exists!
I have a special place for Chesrown cars.... this is another one!

Yeah, the reality is that so many cars are gone... I thought with the OW engine code that it might be a W30 car and have a greater chance of surviving... I know little about the car as all of the people connected to it are gone too.
Thanks for checking!

I don't have access to any history. I can access current DMV records. If you want to find it you have to start with Ohio DMV and ask if they can do a history search and see who owned it next and so forth. If crushed then some states have a Certificate of Destruction. If sold in another state then you would have to start over in that state. It's time consuming as mailing in forms is best way to get an answer. Some states don't even issue a title if it's really old. So the trail would die there.

Awesome info! Thanks everyone.
No1 knows... Most of why I am here is to share my documentation with all the OldsFans out there!
Too bad they did not include the VIN for the 66 he traded on this post coupe.. I would chase that one too!
Dad bought wrecks and rebuilt them in earnest as early as 15. He had already rebuilt a 67 and this 66... he was only 18 in October 67 when this 68 was ordered. The 69 we still own has a Protect-O-Plate date 6 days before his 20th birthday... Proud to be his son... but OOOOH to have known him then!

It's a fairly early production car. It looks like the transmission build date code is listed, I'm not sure why that's on the sales receipt. FWIW "P8P26" is Muncie plant, 1968, September 26th.
"AA" is Ebony Black
"Trim 10" has got me stumped. Trim codes in 68 are letters except interior and those are three number codes
"TO" may be a 3.91 rear end which would have only been available with an M21. (not sure why it says "body no." before it)

It is a sheet hand typed by a salesman... so, it is a bit like reading into a story from 100 feet and more than a half century! I find it so very interesting. It has really helped me search for and find so many documents for my car. It has been so awesome to see the story come together and resurface so many memories of stories told by folks that are no longer here to tell them.
Like this picture from my parents' wedding day. My Mom and Dad are in the 69 coming toward the camera... and my uncle in the background driving a 68 Ramrod going the other way... Uncle Randy totaled that Ramrod just a short time later. Pretty sure that it had been a Chesrown car that had been a racer that made it onto the used car lot in Newark... Randy also had a 68 HO that I am so happy still exists!!
Hope to find more relics of Oldsmobiles gone by in those boxes!!
