The history is so important. My son has his grandfathers 66 Cutlass conv that was ordered in 66 by my Dad. One repaint and never owned by anyone but our family. On Fathers Day we celebrate Dad and his car. He passed away in 1991 but the car was his favorite possession. Never drove anything but an Olds from 1941 on. Great cars.

I don't know anything. Really. I just look it all up.

Cool additional car history
As many of you have suggested, I've been working on putting together as much documentation as possible on my Olds. I haven't found the build sheet yet, but I'm finally starting on the interior next week and I hope (fingers crossed) to find it then. I have gone through all of my Grandfathers things and was not able to locate the protecto -plate. One thing I have been working on is trying to locate the original owner who bought the car in 66 and sold it to my grandfather in 67'. Today was my LUCKY DAY!! I located the original owner.
He still lives here in Colorado. He's a fantastic guy and was very happy to here from me and hear about his dearly loved Oldsmobile. He told me the story about how he hated to sell it, but he was in the National Guard and was deployed to Vietnam - couldn't afford to keep the car. My Grandfather traded his 58 Olds and some money for the car. He got married before he deployed, and he thinks he has a few wedding pictures with the 66 Olds in them. He always wondered what happened to the car and was very excited to learn that it's still alive and well. He is going to look through his things and see if he has any additional documentation. He also said he would look for the photos and let me make copies. He and his wife will be planning a motorcycle roadtrip to see the car (we live about 60 miles away). Pretty exciting!!

Hello anyone and every one
This is my first (?) post. I sent a picture but I have never seen it posted anywhere. Like the fella I just read about I too have an original documented 66 442. A year after I bought it (5 yrs. ago) I tracked down the original owner who is now 75 years old.She sent me 32 registration slips and the original protecto-plate booklet. Vin and serial numbers in the booklet matched the door tag and engine. How and where do I post a picture??

Thanks Guys! I appreciate the good comments and advice. I did write the G.M. Heritage Center with my VIN# and they were able to provide me with some good initial information.
I'm currently matching all my #'s and they are correct so far for a 442. I have pictures of my grandfather and the car. I also have my grandfathers original title, and the original owners manual. I haven't been able to find the build sheet yet, any suggestions for were to look would be greatly appreciated. Thanks - Mark

Finally - Bodywork!!
I finally started on my bodywork on the 66'. I've posted some pictures and hopefully I'll have some paint on it in the next couple of weeks. I'm going to paint it the original Burgandy mist and after much thought I'm going to replace the black vinyl top instead of painting the top black.. The body was pretty clean to begin with but I knew I had some problems looming in the rear package tray area (Rust) but I didn't know how extensive until I removed the rear window and trunk divider panel. The structure under the trunk divider panel was toast. I was able to remove the entire structure, along with the package tray area, from a 66' rust free Colorado parts car . I then replaced it into mine. I then installed a new divider panel. A few more coats of primer and many more hours block sanding and I should be ready for paint. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks Hurst 68' Olds
Fast fred 01 posted at the end of the thread about his car (different car). I do know mine was originally burgandy mist with black vinyl top. If that is your 67' it is one great looking car. I hope mine turns out that well someday.
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks for updating the thread! Great in progress pics. Can't wait to see how the paint turns out.
I have the exact same issue (worse) looming with my cars rear trunk filler panel. The bottom support peice is literally crumbing away from the bottom, while the top (solid bondo) still looks great.
Anyway, thanks for the pics, and keep up the good work!

Thanks Rambow - The little piles of rust that would mysteriously appear in the trunk should have been my first clue that their was big problem . I took a look at the picture of your 66' and your car looks great. Was it originally Burgandy or did you do a color change?

Thanks Richard -
I followed your thread on your old 66' and your work was unbelievable. It gave me the inspiration to keep going on mine and for that I thank you. Whats the story with the 66 442 you have now?

Thanks, I sure miss it. The new one was just my sickness of always having my eyes open and found this one that I can spend a few weekends on and make a few bucks to go toward my new shop. I will post some daylight pics when I can.

Finally some color!!!
Just got my car back today from the body shop. I've been waiting for this day for what seems like an eternity. As with all projects there were challenges along the way, but in the end it turned out great. I still need to adjust the bumpers a little and do some fine tuning on some gaps but I'm just glad it's home. I painted it the original burgandy mist and I'll have the black vinyl top installed in a couple of weeks. Then I'll reinstall the glass along with the window trim, drip mouldings, c-pillar chrome. Then it's onto the upholstery. I'll post some more pics in a few weeks with the vinyl top and mouldings. Sorry about the quality of the pictures, used my phone.
Thanks
Thanks
