1961 Starfire Engine Oil Pan Drain Plug
#2
Is yours trashed, or you just can't figure out how to get it out?
If trashed one can come from any 61-64 394 engine and I think a 1965 425. Might be hard to find a hex head drain plug big enough. Someone might know of one.
Use a 1/2" drive ratchet or breaker bar to remove and install it. There's a special 8-point bit for them but the ratchet will do fine.

Apparently not in great condition. I was told it was 1/2 inch, but then someone said no. I did find a car part supplier that has one that will allegedly will fit. Hopefully it does and the mechanic working on it has no issues. Thanks.

Here's one from a 1965 425. I think it's 7/8" but looks like more than 14 threads per inch. I am guessing it's 7/8-24 or possibly 7/8-20
The official tool to remove is a Bonney A650 but can be removed as described above.

Drain plug
Just had the oil changed on my 64 Starfire. They tried the 1/2 inch drive but felt it was going to strip the plug. They finally found a tool that worked but not that Bonney A650. Is there really not a normal plug with the right threads to just replace it. Many show up on parts store websites as 1/2 20. Are those not compatible? I'd buy the tool if I could just find one.

Using the ratchet WITHOUT extensions works better on these drain plugs. Extensions sometimes have rounded corners on the bit end and those will slip in the drain plug and round off the recess.
The 8-point Bonney tool is usually not hard to find.
