1971 442 convertible 4 SP 455 with air
1971 442 convertible 4 SP 455 with air all the w30 options .
I don't know how many were built because there are a lot of different numbers out there.
Its a factory 4 SP car and it does have air so it is rare .
I don't expect to get 156k out of it but I would like $65000 for it
what do you think?

As far as I can tell it is a w30 but I can't not prove it
because I don't have a build sheet for it and GM did not keep good records back then.
It has everything a W30 should have .
But I'm just being honest here .

And the reasoning was because of the fat camshaft I believe? No idle vacuum to speak of. Which would then make power brakes NA on W-30 4 speed too, correct? Didn't see complete it but the MC looks to be of the power brake angle. Maybe I'm blind. Not that adding a PB booster couldn't be done, but why unless you had a huge vacuum canister somewhere? Not knocking the car, but simply trying to verify if something should have came a certain way on a manual W-30 or not.

It's not a real W-30. As you suspect, the four speed cars got the 328/328 cam that did not create enough vacuum for power brakes or A/C (plus, adding those heavy option kind of defeat the purpose of buying a high-output engine). The red inner fenders are the poorly-formed early repros that don't properly mimic the shape of the real ones. The fact that your first post says "...with all the W-30 options" tells me that you already knew it wasn't a real W-30. Nice car, few 4spd convertibles made in 1971. Good luck with the sale.

All of that info is available on the web. In any case, there is no way that GM Heritage Center knows if this car is a real W-30 or not. GM of Canada would have records if the car was originally sold in Canada, but GM Heritage Center has no records that link VIN to options.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the AC limitation was related to the gear in the rear end. The 3.23:1 gear was the stiffest gear you could get from the factory if you wanted AC. Steeper gears produced higher RPMs which the AC compressors did not like.

There were two different limitations. The compressor speed drove rear end gearing limits, but the fact that the A/C flapper doors are all vacuum operated drove the restriction with the MT W-30 cam.

I was just putting the bid out there. Should show what the market is , or close to it. I agree with you about ebay , c list and everyplace else. Its all bullshit until the cash is on the hood. I have had no less than 20 tire kickers for my 66s, wearing me out. Worst part is waiting and no shows. I think bring a trailer is my next move. It either sells or it dont.

I understand, but my point is that it really doesn't show what the market is. You have no idea if the bidder who went to $37K ever intended to actually go through with the deal or not. Some people just play games to run the number up without hitting reserve and have no intention of actually buying the car.
