Correct, Every marque is suffering with this crap. When (not if) a swapped trim tag or vin tag is detected during NCRS events, the offending car is branded as counterfeit and banned from ever being judged again in the organization. Until the rest of the hobby takes a similar stance, you can expect this stuff to continue.

Post 'em up.
That white 71 looks like a really nice car but with all the question marks I get it. That interior shot it looks like the driver's seat is set crooked. If that car was restored for me and I went to pick it up and it had that deck stripe I would have said fix it.

Wow! 6-figure cars. I would imagine at this point, they’re investments and make the rounds from auction house to auction house. Post if anyone here picked these up and plan to drive them 😎. My newest car is 30 years old and I still daily my ‘79 Trans Am.

[QUOTEI saw that car. Although a nice car, I don't know who goes through the extreme of any level of restoration and puts stripes like that on a car..][/QUOTE]
Yes I agree, but what you have to realize is most shops don't know Oldsmobiles like we do. They won't bother finding out either. There is a big lack of restoration guys out there in the first place. Most collector guys who have the cash to collect don't know and it's not that important to them unfortunately. It is what is. I just find it amusing how many get so personal about this. I see so many flaws in these restorations, but at least the car is alive and is still with us. Anything can be fixed or put back if you have the time and cash. I'm just so tired of all the tire kicking keyboard cowboys on the internet these days. Enjoy the car for what it is. As long as someone isn't trying to scam someone or lie about what they have, that is what matters in the end.

You don't have to "know Oldsmobiles" to see that the stripes aren't aligned the same from the right side to the left side. That's just shoddy workmanship and speaks volumes about the attention to detail in this "restoration".

I have not attended a Mecum or BJ auction..planned on Mecum but **** got in the way.. however with that said I’m starting to wonder if any of the cars look as good in reality as they do in under the lights on the television. Because the paint you see in the sienna brown car somebody could’ve easily wet sanded and polished that and flattened the paint ..would have made all the difference in the world. As Joe says, it’s all about attention to detail and some people just looking to flip it.. which is fine as long as the price reflects it

Re: Lot T148
I believe the Agean Aqua color shown on Lot T148 is actually Reef Turquoise. My 70 442 is Agean Aqua and is a bit darker than that car. See my profile pics for the comparison.......Tadpole11

The pictures on the Mecum site don't represent the paint color all that well. The color is Aegean Aqua as this car spent time in St. Louis, and I even drove it up and down a buddy's driveway.

I am glad this car didn't sell for 200k plus. Almost gives me faith in people giving a crap about what they are buying. Honestly to me this car with a bench seat column shift would be cooler than yet another modified errr wait "All Original " car. Bench seat W car is awesome. I have said it a few times. If I had the opportunity in 1970 my W-30 would have been white black stripes white interior. Beautiful car. Hope it got a real Oldsmobile lover not just another dollar chaser.
