Man health issues

Today I learned of the death of another high school friend to prostate cancer. Third since February, and two of them were brothers.

Make sure you get a PSA test as part of an annual physical or wellness exam. It's a bloodwork test; you no longer get violated.

Good advice. Get PSA tests and keep track of the results, even if you're #'s are within range it can be a problem if you were at the low end of the acceptable range last year and this year you're at the high end of the acceptable range. The amount of increase known as the "velocity" between tests is important data.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2015. Had 5 out of 9 biopseys that were gleason 9 and stage four. My urologist started a treatment of hormone displacement, no surgery and I have been cancer free since mid 2016. Have bone scans every year and never had any hot spots show up. Proves surgery is not always needed.

No glove exams anymore, and the PSA tests are only 50% at detecting cancer. I get a physical and the PSA test every year, I'm just not that confident that they would catch it early, the only good thing is that there is no family history of it, so perhaps that bodes well.

That's excellent I will get no violation. I was not looking forward to that. I need to start physicals now that I am in the 40s.

Of course, in your 50s, you start getting The Scope.

Actually, the latest recommendations are for colonoscopies prior to age 50; you should start at age 45.

Colonoscopies save lives, period. Do not depend on the old send a fecal sample away and risk your health on their results.
