1977 CUTLASS SGXII ????

Hi everyone, I'm thinking of buying another 77 cutlass but this one seems to be a rare one. The owner says it was a ltd production vehicle??? It has chrome mirrors and a stainless steel band across the roof that divides the vinyl top. In between the side window and the opera window there is a emblem... "CUSTOM BUILT SXGII"

Does anyone know what this car is all about???

Thanks,
Gabe.

Is there a dealer sticker or tag on it or do you know which dealer it came from? That might be a good place to start inquiries.

There were a number of dealer-built "specials" in the 1970s. Virtually all of these were nothing more than stick-on emblems or decals, occasionally with some stainless trim, and a specific combination of options.

It was Y76 special option package.
It came with:
Chrome Sport Mirror - LH/ Remote Control,
Argent Colored Super Stock Wheels,
Body Accent Stripes,
Modified Roof with Special Landau Top,
Salon Steering Wheel,
Stainless Steel Top Band (1977 only)

It could be ordered by different dealers and then given a marketing
name like Knight Edition, UFO or Lion.

The SGX II was the name for the
Ellijay, Georgia dealership that ordered them.
Cool, huh?

well yes i do, i bought one in georgia in 1977 brand new , there was only 77 made and they were all triple black , bucket seats, modified 350 engine, all the sgxII markings , special wheels, and as far as i remember, 77 is all they made. i sold mine to a guy in new jersey back in 2005 for 8600.00 and it was still running like new, oh and this cutlass also had a special handling package too

Couldn't be much if anything from the factory anyway. Couldn't mess with the certification and pollution controls. EPA would have had something to say about it.

And if the listing of what came with Y76 RPO that was posted earlier is accurate, I'd say nothing was done to the engine.
