'67 Rear "OLDSMOBILE" trim strip?

I came across pics of '67's with the Olds lettering (below the trunk lip) trim strip colored black with chrome letters. The taillight surrounds are black too. My car it's bare metal with a textured look. It looks easy to paint and may pop better? Are guys painting these or is that a Supreme/442 thang?

I painted mine because they were all pitted and discolored.

Eric that is one of the cars I spotted. It looks great!

Did you brush it or spray it? I was thinking spray etching primer and spray satin enamel. Use thinner to clean letter faces.

Sprayed satin black, used acetone on a rag to clean the tops of the letters, then clear coated. I have to touch up the edges but its been on there since 09. Drove it in the rain, snow, and the Texas heat.

The black was a 442 thing in 67.... easy to spray with satin black. Dont tape the letters just clean and dewax and spray. The letters are scraped clean with ease as paint wont stick very well to the shiny chrome letters.

Thanks for the tips gentleman! I think I'll try her painted as it looks like it should be black. Would not have thought to clear coat it. Nice.
