72 Cutlass heater core (w/AC) replacement

Ok. So I got the heater core out and I don’t see any evidence of leaks anywhere on the unit itself. Please tell me if I am missing this. Could it be the hose inlets? They look a little beat up.











Can I hook up the heater hoses to the heater core inside the engine bay (as shown in the photos above) and run the car and check for leaks?

I hooked up the hoses and ran the engine and it leaked slightly at the hose inlets right at the hose. I think I might try smaller hose clamps as the ones I am using seem like they might be a little big and don’t seem to be getting a good seal all the way around.
