Convertible top switch

I think my switch is bad. How would I test it, and how to replace it if bad?

A test light. There's either power or there isn't.

^^ This. Find the fuse for the top on the fuse box, ground the tester, prob the contacts. If you have power on both side of the fuse, it is either a wiring problem or a switch issue. The switch is hard to reach because it is connected to the dash plastic behind the air conditioning duct. You nearly have to pull the dash out to get to it.

He did not say what issue lead him to believe it is a switch issue, It may also be easy for him to check for power at the pump (need a helper for the switch) to eliminate if it is a switch/wiring issue or a pump issue.

Is there a fuse or is the top power on a circuit breaker on the firewall?

while recharging the hydraulic system, the top motor (pump) would continue to run when the switch was reversed or when I tried to stop it. sometimes it would start, but now nothing.
I'll check power & fuse. I sure don't want to remove the dash
Thanks for the responses.

I just replaced mine in my 72, if you take both the gauge cluster and the speedo out, you should be able to get to the back of the dash bolts very easy, two bolts and the switch attached to the wiring comes out, easy to test then.

If you have to open the system, (switch is good but pump is bad) try this ... https://store.convertibleparts.com/f...atic-tool.html I used it to fill / bleed the system if you need to change a pump or pistons, I installed a new top motor and this was an easy one man job to fill and get the air out of the system with no mess.
