I am new to the Cutlass/442 family and was looking for suggestions on what books make good reference material. For example, I can't seem to find where you guys get the body tag info at. I don't mind buying a book or two if it helps me understand what to look for and how to tell original from modified cars. I'm looking at getting a 66-67 Cutlass or 442 and want to be able to interpret things like trim codes, color codes, options etc while I'm looking at the car, rather than post questions to the boards. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Assembly Manual for year(s) chosen, which could get expensive if you buy one for every year, same goes for the Chassis Service Manual for the year(s) you want. Oldsmobile 442 & W-Machines Restoration Guide, doesn't tell you how to restore anything...but has good information. 442 By The Numbers, good, accurate info for 442's 1965-1972 mostly casting codes and stamping codes. Catalog of Oldsmobile 442, W-Machines & Hurst Olds, ID Numbers 1964-1991, cowl tag info, colors, options, etc.
