I have all that info too. Cool stuff. Just because it was published in factory lit or assembly manuals doesn't tell 100% how the cars came off the assembly line. It certainly tells most of the story, though.

I have the same hoods on both my 71 S and 72 S,I am very confident both hoods were with the cars when they left the factory.

Both hoods have the rear vents and side louvers(levers ).

The '72 Cutlasses built after 12/31/1971 had the new seat belt system and elimination of the rear vents on the hood. The hood change applied to AC and non-AC cars.

Is that so? Well maybe you could explain why my car that was built in April of 72 has rear venting, and it's not an AC car?

I think if you look up the hood applications you will find:
1971 - has rear vents for both AC and non AC cars
1972 - has rear vents for non AC, but no vents on AC cars.

This drawing is copied and cropped from my 1972 Assembly Manual for your reference. That note is NOT provided in the 1971 Cutlass Assembly Manual
