New old guy looking for friends and parts
Hi everyone. I have just joined this Olds site and this one only as I think its one of the busiest and well controlled.
I am 46 and live near Toronto, Ontario.
I owned a 1973 2 door cutlass in the early 80's but that gem was written off by a drunk driver.
I recently bought an original barn find 1970 2 door delta 88 with 29,024 original miles.
Very basic options and still has the original galleon gold paint and all chrome intact including the chrome emblem on the trunk where the car was bought.
I found the build sheet behind the rear seat and was given a metal plate that I now know to be a protecto plate.
I need a couple of small dash parts.
The air vent that is to the right of the instrument cluster and the filler panel that is where the clock would be.
I am looking for a rear bumper too.
Can anyone suggest a good fitting seat cover for the 2 door?
I dont see the code for the rear end gears anywhere on the build sheet.
Can someone advise me where on the sheet it would be, just in case I'm missing it?
thanks everyone.

Thankyou sir.
Its weird. I haven't had this must passion for a car since I had my cutlass in 1981.
I love the Rocket 350 and the 400 trans is a bonus.
All for $560.00 Canadian.
I will be driving this car in USA and Canada this year.
Hopefully meet some people from this forum.

Welcome and good luck with the your barn find. Check out Year One for seat covers. Do you have a rear bumper? Most chrome shops can do wonders on a bumper. They can take out dents and patch rust spots and usually can save you getting a new one.

barn find
Yes, I have a bumper with a couple of 2" holes.
Trying to find someone to repair it is another thing. Seems to be few good metal techs up here.
Rust is from sitting outside for 2 years and leaves collecting.
Can anyone advise on where on my build sheet is the geear ratio code listed for the diff?
I took pictures last night but this site says I have to have the url number??

I have sandblasted the orig wheels including the spare.
New tires and dual thrush turbos. new brake lines, rear shocks and sway bar bushings. snadblasted all air intake parts and new 350 rocket sticker.
runs quiet and no hesitation.

Rational ratio
Hi and welcome; We need the 'G' code on the build sheet for your ratio and on the axle tube to the right of the diff is a two letter code-gives ratio also e.g. RA, RB, RE, RF it will be a 2.56 or a 2.93- the '70's had a neat option for wheels with a functional mag wheel that helped cool the brakes...disc brakes were also available...

ratio
Hi and thx.
I'll have to get back under and check the front of the tube as the back was blank. Good thing about this car is the underneath which is rust free, just coated with thick oil. I cant find the G code on the build sheet so I'm assuming what ever was stock that year is what this has. Its a very basic car and I did post some pics.

build sheet
I'll try to find a scanner this morning. I dont have one but I'm heading into the city today.
Thanks
Did the pictures that I posted show up on line?
bob
Bob, great find you have there! I'd like to see the build sheet. If you can email me (wmachine@shubes.net) or post a scan, we can pull the rear code off that. And lots of other things too!
Thanks

Got the great scan you e-mailed me! You really hit the documentation jackpot with that build sheet. Built in Linden NJ and shipped to Canada to sell. You can contact GM Canada if you wish and get an invoice copy of how your car is equipped. But with your complete build sheet, it really won't tell you any more (nor as much) as the build sheet.
Okay, now for your gear ratio. Column 29, "RA". That's a 2.78 open.

70 Delta
Hi and thanks very much. Thats ironic, my dad used to drive car transport in the 60's,70's and 80's out of Oshawa.
And I guess OPEN means non-posi????
Was hoping for posi but I can't have everything . lol
I'm happy with that gearing. I like cruising and the lower the revs, the better.
Are there any olds swap meets this year??? I would like to replace my rusty rear seatbelts. CLR worked a little bit but years of sitting with a leaky rear window took its toll.
Thanks

Car Hauler Dad
Hi and thanks very much. Thats ironic, my dad used to drive car transport in the 60's,70's and 80's out of Oshawa.
Hey Trafficnazzi; I don't know if you'll get this soon but Yellowstatue sent you to my sons' handle here, it's 62starfire63 and he didn't know why you were contacting him. I'm the guy that Statue was refering you to as I hauled cars throughout the 70's, 80's, and right into 2000. I originally had my own car carriers in the 70's & the 80's with my own Operating License. I sold it in the late 80's and later on started working for McCallum, & then Maris joined with us and then we became Autohaulaway, and Allied Systems, and then we took over the Ryder operation which included ACL, & MCL, the old George Charlton Transport. Hope to maybe here back from you and you can share some hi-lites. Oh by the way my name is Cliff McFarlane
