Original exhuast tips
Does anyone know what the original tips were on a 69 convertible S? Mine currently has trumpets which I think were added by a PO back in the 80's when the exhust was replaced. But I thought only the 442's with the bumper cutouts got those from the factory? I've seen some rectangular chrome type and even some that just turned down after the rear end with an angle cut and no tips. I like the look of the rectangular with a standard bumper but was that an original for just the W-30 or W-31 options?
Thanks,
Rob

I believe the W30 or W31 should have the bumper cutouts and the trumpet exhaust. Rectangular exhausts? Nope, not a factory option or in fact an option for your car. If you go rectangular, it's strictly a personal thing. The normal exhausts were just round steel tubes with a down turn at the bumper.

Only for 1968-1971. The 350-powered 442s in 1972 did not get the cutout bumper and trumpets, not even when the N10 dual exhaust was ordered. Only the 455 cars got the cutouts and trumpets.

No matter how clear we try to be, there can always lurk an omission somewhere. I should have said I meant that in the context of '69s as was the original question. But it is always a better forum response to give expanded answers.

I had a hunch that's what you meant, but I figured I'd make sure we were completely unambiguous.
