Rallye 350,should I save it?
I just purchased a 70 Rallye 350 that is a factory bech seat 4spd,but is very rough.I have heard there were only around 160 built with a 4spd which is why I think it might be worth saving. When you see the pics most will think I am crazy but I am not afraid to tackle the project.I am not doing this just for resale purpose I plan to keep the car.Let me know your opinions. Here is the trim tag info,as for the vin I have to remove the windshield because all the dirt and misc. is covering the vin. You can view the pics here

Well, I don't know about the production numbers but I know of one 4 speed hardtop car that no longer exists. I see this is a post car. If your up for the challange it would be a fun car once completed. John
PS interesting bone yard, I kept looking for a license plate to figure out what state it's in. After you get your project car would you tell us where this is? John

i have never heard of any production numbers for the 4 speed rallye 350. i do know that they are far more rare than automatics. mine is a 4 speed but most rallye 350s were bench seat automatic cars. the funny thing is if you go to the shows you will see Rallye 350s more often with buckets and console. i don't know if that is because people convert them or if it is because those are the ones that people wanted to save and restore most.

i am very interested in the fact of the bumper bolts not being painted. can you tell if this is an original paint car? some Rallye 350s had painted bumper bolts and some did not. i have never seen a post car with non painted bolts. if you can tell it is an original paint car i would love to know the date code for this car. i would love to know anyway. maybe the VIN also. if i was to guess i would say it's not an early car.
most people would have painted the bolts if it was repainted. this stuff fascinates me

Thanks for the input guys.On the trim tag it has 02C which would be early 70 and yes it dose look like it is an orginal paint car.It was hit in the side but went over the rocker and did not bend the frame. It also has a 3:90 posi with rear sway bar.I am located in Wymore,NE. and anyone is welcome to visit.
I think everyone converts thier cars to buckets and console cars.I sell alot of the pieces to change bench seat cars to bucket.I have not done much research on the Rallye 350 cars yet ,I just love the color and body style.

that would be a 3:91. with a 3:91 it would have had a 4 core radiator and core support.
do you have the original engine and trans? if not i would part it. if you have them it would be alot of work. i think i would still part it.

When I was first bit by the Oldsmobile bug I bought a Rallye 350 with major rust problems. It was a 4 speed bench seat car that the previous owner had purchased just for the trannie. I got what was left. I parted it out and that's one of the cars I would do differently if I had it now. Huge project yes, cool car though and very different from other cars with the coated bumpers and bright Sebring Yellow paint. John

Nice pics. Ummmm much as I love Olds and appreciate the rarity of these cars....and no, I don't think you're crazy....If it was me, I'd be thinking this one through pretty carefully. I hate seeing these cars go to the crusher as much as any Olds guy. Have you worked out a balance sheet on what its going to cost you? I'm thinking you're going to need a whole pass side, front clip, rear deck, complete interior etc hardware, glass etc make it work. And, if you don't have the engine/trans...... heavy sigh. From the interior pic, it also looks like the floor pans are gone, so there's probably trunk pans etc that need doing too. Also from the side pic, did the hit change the roofline as well? If the top isn't square to the body, the doors will never line up. This is a HUUUGE projectThat's a really serious hit. IMO I don't think it's worth it. But, if you can make it work for whatever reason, I wish you all the best. .

In the boneyard pics, it looks like all the front clips have been removed. This car will likely never be a matching numbers again. Heck, the diff and mirrors on this car are probably worth more than the salvage cost

Well after much thought and getting another project car,a 70 chevelle convert. (like I really need another one)I would rather find a Rallye 350 that is more complete so I decided to part out the one I have.I will put it in the classified section. Thanks for the opinions guys.
