'63 Super 88 - Rebuild a NIB Fuel Pump?

Trying to resurrect my 63 super. Hasn't run in about 20 years. Debugging the fuel system and hit the fuel pump. Mine has the sight glass/filter next to the pump.

Talked with "Then and Now" - $35 for a gasket set to use with new gas. Going to get that on order. Going through the car I found a brand new in the box spare fuel pump. Looking at the age of the pump I can't imagine it is set up for new fuel. Any way to tell?

Talked with the guy at "Then and Now" - he recommended rebuilding it and putting on the shelf for a spare. Any thoughts?

Rebuild it now, or rebuild it later. Your choice, but you will most definitely be rebuilding it soon, once ethanol does it magic!

Put the new pump and she fired right up. My pump didn't have a filter in it. Can you get those or do you just use an inline filter?

On a car that hasn't run for 20 years I would use both, that is if you haven't boiled the tank out....Tedd

boiling out the tank today. Rebuilt the old pump this morning and got another kit for the new pump. How much needs to be replaced on the new one?

Hate to punch out those valves if I don't have to.

I would change out the valves for sure. They are not that hard to come out. I held mine in my hand, and hit them out with a socket. Change all rubber type parts while it's open. Operate the main diaphram a few times as you tighten the cover. I hope your kit comes with the diaphram and pull/push rod already assembled. Some kits make you reuse the old pull rod. Not fun.
