Engine rebuild

OK so I picked up a spare 425 out of a 66 Delta. Was running when the guy took it out and put it in his garage. Still got oil in it etc

I was thinking its always good to have a spare and also, it gives me something to play with/learn with without having to take the beast off the road.

The engine is all dead stock and complete less the exhaust manifolds. Its a 2 barrel

I am not looking to dump a huge heap of cash into it and the reality is that I am not experienced in rebuilding motors from the bottom up (have done some motorcycles but that's about it!)

So, my question to you guys is what would you do to this motor?

I am thinking a Q-Jet set-up for starters and ????

Thanks!

And ???? Even though you don't have much experience, it doesn't mean you should cut corners. Save your money and do it right.

Depends on what your plans are. At a guess, you're using it for a learning experience, with no fixed time schedule. If so, disassemble it and see what needs to be done!

You might play with rebuilding it for the next three years, picking up parts here and there, without ever dumping a huge amount of cash into it at any one time.

Once you know what machining must be done, then you can start making more solid plans for fun stuff!

I am thinking of converting it to a 4 barrel, cleaning it up and checking overall condition etc.

Is there much benefit to performance cams for example?

I am in Edmonton if there are any local gear heads!

Thanks

As a follow-on question...

The engine in my car (67) has

397357 - intake
395548 - heads (c)

The spare (66) has

391136 - intake
389395 - heads (B)

All things equal, is either engine better for rebuilding than the other?

Thanks again fellas
