Im new to posting on the site but have been lurking around for a bit.

Wanted to tell you about my 88 that I found. Bought new in 69 and parked in 75. It sat till 2008 sold and drove till 2010 then resold again and drove very little for two years then parked in 2012. 39919 Original miles. I plan to do a restoration project on her.

Based on the side faux louvers that is a Delta Royale Holiday Coupe - top of the Delta line for 69. Nice that you know the history of the car. There are not a lot of aftermarket parts for these cars, even from vendors like Fusicks so don't wreck anything taking it apart for restoration.

39K miles is low, but with all that sitting your engine might need all new seals and gaskets. Also, when you change oil, do NOT use regular oil, use something with higher levels of Zinc (ZDDP). There isn't enough in modern oil to prevent damage to flat tappets your car has. If the car is bone stock the standard engine was the 2 bbl 310 hp 455. There were other engines offered as well - all 455s with 4bbl and increased hp and torque.

Yes you are correct Allen it is a Royale. It did have the 2 barrel carb so it was the base engine for the car. The car will be going through a complete rebuild. I'm looking at a high performance upgrade to the engine something in the relm of 500 hp and 625lbs torque. This will be more of a restro mod when its done. I have a second complete 69 Royale that was my first ride. I like most kids did not look after it and the body has rotted away. However the trim and interior is complete and will make a good donor car. Allen, You and I are not to far away from each other. Lloydminster is home for me.

Don't know if you're aware, but documentation on your car is available from GM Canada? Even though it's older they still maintain a database of information for cars that were either built in Canada or built for export to Canada. Not available for most US production.

I like the idea of a restomod. The 69 and 70 Deltas were one of the nicer body styles IMO. If you're upgrading the engine, you might as well bomb proof the trans and improve the rear gears too. Good to hear you have that second donor car; that's an excellent plan and resource to have.

I live on the Alberta side Allen. Right now I have yet to even see the car. I bought sight unseen. I have the car in storage with a Tech coming in to check its heart beat. once its cleared to leave I will have it shipped out west.

Let me ask, How many of you have seen one with a factory installed Eight track in the dash above the glove box?

Not above the glove box. These cars did have the option for the 8 track. It was located below the radio and ashtray. Here's a pic.

I have this brochure, (options & features) definitely 1969, but it does not state whether 88 or 98, but that is the correct 8 track shown.

I realize that. The info posted was to show the location of the factory mounted 8 track. You're right that it is for a Cutlass but it is a 1969 model shown. As others mentioned the 8 track in your car is a proper Ols unit, but custom mounted. If it was factory, it would have been mounted in a pod on the bottom right side of the dash.

While it wasn't a 69/70 D88 or Ninety Eight & I wouldn't go so far as to place my hand on a stack of bible's .....

I ~may~ vaguely recall seeing a 69-70 Toro with a separate in the dash 8-track at some point.

Here is a picture of the 1969 Delta 88 Royale dash as it would have come from the factory. Note the location of the 8 track (just in front of the console/shifter on the bottom right side of the dash pad) and the wood grain on the trim panel above the glove box. This is what it would look like if it was stock. Sorry the pic isn't that great, but you can see what I mean.

I don't deny having it under the dash isn't what's normally seen .....

But I thought I recall seeing one built into the trim on a 69/70 Toro once.

If in fact my memory of such is right ...

It might make the possibility of such being done on an 69/70 D88/98 not so far fetched.

Either way ... I would love to see some clearer & better quality pix of the OP's setup when he is able to get some.

I too, would like to see more clear pictures. I have bought this car sight unseen. I was told it as picked up by the transport company today so with a little luck I will have a lot more pictures to share soon. This will be my next project and I have a budget of about $30000 so we will see what I come up with. The best part is I have a complete donor car with about 100000 miles, my first car. The body however looks like swiss cheese but the parts are in good shape and complete.

We are going to bring her into the 21st century. Suspension,Brakes, and Drive train. However the interior and exterior will remain stock form, with exception to wheels and ride height.

Not really building a sleeper. You'll know when you see the look that its not stock. Rather then changing the original body appearance and putting modern seats I think I will keep it stock. I am going to find period correct buckets and console for it which was an option. It will have after market wheels and the ride height will be modified. I haven't decide whether I will go the way of a an 80's looks with big fatty's on the back or a combination of both with 20's on the rear and 18's on the front. Probably the latter.

Well' I got the beast home yesterday. I'm very pleased. The car looks to have had a routine undercoating. I've found a little bit of rust but over all nothing major. I did get the car running in Toronto before it left for my place and it runs strong. The suspension is very weak and will need to be completely replaced. Those are the good things.

The bad things are that the car was repainted and done poorly and on a cheap budget. I think it will be easy to redo but I may have it media blasted or dipped so nothing gets missed. The trim is full of dents and scratches which I'm sure is from the someone taking it off and not knowing what they were doing.

The interior is all there but is shot, and as for the eight track in the dash above the glove compartment. You have to look very close but I'm now sure that its a very good install done by someone other than factory. It looks so good I may leave it.

Does anyone have a link to a source of repair manuals for this car?

I'm concerned that some of the parts may be missing from the poor paint job. Having a Chassis Manual as well as a Drive Train Manual would be nice to have to refer to during restoration.

My 69 Delta Royale was built equipped with the factory installed 8 track as described above. Sold 10 years ago the car is in Winnipeg MB now.
