Steering gear box repair?

Hi, I own a 56 Super 88 convertible with power steering.

Seems that there is quite a play in the steering, can you help me to possibly adjust it?

Is it difficult to take the steering gear box out of the car for repair?

Thanks
The German

At that age probably best to have it rebuilt - trying to adjust even if possible could make it worse.

check this rebuilder out - awesome vendor

Often you can improve and minimize slop in the steering by making the over center adjustment as in the factory service manual. Hold the screw head in the top cover while loosening the lock nut, then turn the screwdriver clockwise a little at a time, and re-tighten the lock nut.

If you over tighten it, you can ruin the gearbox. Best left to a professional. If I remember correctly this takes up slack in the shaft, but not in the gears. So if there is play in the gears, you might tighten it too much.
