Timing mark question 56 Olds

The timing mark is easily visible viewing it from the drivers side fender location. But, I'm running a mild cam, so I probably want 8-12 degrees of advance from what I've been reading. The olds has a pointer but no "degree plate" like some other cars, just a mark on the harmonic balancer. The question is when viewing the timing mark from the drivers side fender, if the timing mark appears above the pointer is the timing showing advance? Thanks, Chuck

The crank rotates clockwise as viewed from the front of the car. Advance is when the mark is before (to the passenger side) of the pointer.

Thanks Joe, I thought I was right. I have always found it interesting that although the crank rotates clockwise, the distributor rotates counter-clock wise. Chuck
