Two Issues need advice
Without going into a long story, I found the idle vent valve on my carburetor to be upside down when compared to the manual when I was rebuilding it. Does anyone know if that would have caused the car to almost stall (and if gas pedal pressed fast would stall)?
Rochester 4GC
Idle vent valve cover - the rusty piece
The other problem is why would the Dwell angle change from 30 and go to 45? Could that happen from cleaning the points or am I looking at a failing distributor?

That sounds more like a faulty accelerator pump. It's supposed to squirt fuel as the throttle blades open, and if it doesn't squirt enough fuel, the air-fuel ratio goes way lean and the engine bogs.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that. As it is now when I look down into the carb I can see the gas spraying into it.
