Replacing cigarette lighter with power outlet

Hi all, my cigarette lighter has stopped working and this seems a good time to swap it for a USB charging port. I want to avoid messing with the dash though. Will a replacement charging port fit right in. The ports readily available in the UK are 28/29mm diameter, or 1.1inch in old money. Also, if I wanted to change the wiring so it's no longer hot wired, where is the best connection point. Thanks for any help!

If you can find one that fits the hole in the dash it would be a way install.

As for wiring, there are usually power taps on the fuse box, some hot all the time, some powered with the ignition. Personally, if you’re putting a USB where the lighter was, I’d use the factory lighter power wire. If your worried about the usb charger draining the battery, an unused USB charger would take months to drain a battery.
