The raised boss is a 1970 case, the flat ones are 1969.

some holes are for a piece of wire to hold brushes open when you put them together

Correct, I can see that this case already has brushes installed with a pin

The small hole to the R (inside the circled area Funkwagon notes) is a threaded hole that the condensor/noise suppressor bracket screws into (inside the case). Who knows on the other hole in the small rectangular "pad"?? - maybe a factory "mistake" as most don't have that hole. Or maybe it's just a speck of "junk" on there....the pulley laying immediately to the L of that case back half has some similar "specks" on it and those aren't holes in the pulley.

It's "CSI-Alternator Division" now. No matter - cool picture....make it into a poster.

Thx 70Post, that explains why there is a small hole just below the Delco-Remy raised stamp. But, why do some cases not have the same hole? Honestly, I have several of these and some have the hole, others do not. I was curious, thx

Well....It really doesn't explain the reason for the hole the guy was asking about. The other small hole (in Funkwagon's circled area) I did explain as I have a few examples here w/the same hole for the condensor/noise suppressor bracket.....but none have that other hole. On the inside of the case there is nothing but smooth/flat surface where that hole would be. The hole I said was for the condensor has a cast-in raised pad to hold the condensor/noise suppressor/bracket up off the flat surface inside.

If I had one with that hole I would take a look inside for further clues but I don't.

Odd deal....again, some type of factory "variation" for some reason......or no reason at all.

Said another way.....Go ask Donald Rumsfeld.....“There are known knowns — there are things we know we know,” Rumsfeld said in February 2002, when asked for evidence that Saddam Hussein tried to supply weapons of mass destruction to terrorist groups. “We also know there are known unknowns — that is to say, we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don’t know we don’t know.”

So...for future reference and clarity, from now on we have:

1) Open Face Alternators, and..

2) Rumsfeld Open Face Alternators (with the unknown extra hole)

Now I Gotcha 70Post. I notice that other hole is on ALL cases. Really odd that nobody can answer why the small round hole (looks like a perfectly drilled hole) is on some cases, yet not on others. I have noticed the difference for yrs and have never gotten an informed response as to why or why not it is present. Must be grassy knoll stuff.
