Build sheet found!!😀😀😀

While I was "mentally preparing" to remove the driver seat from my '72 Supreme to get re upholstered, I kept wondering if by some slim chance I would find the build sheet tucked underneath. Part of me wanted to hope I would, but part of said "nah...it won't be there" based on the fact it's a Fremont car and the most common place to find their build sheet was in top of the gas tank.

Well, guess what, I have an anomaly, cuz there it was...tucked under the seat.😀. I carefully removed it and will make a copy of it which I will post later, but for now, here's a pic of it as I found it.

Just make sure it's yours. Just sayin'. I've found build sheets a couple VIN numbers different every now and again. But hey, you got one without dropping the tank!

I honestly thought it went the way of the do-do bird!
Oh, btw, what do the asterisks by the option codes mean?

I am now envisioning you running down every single number and its significance! A nice winter's project? Dave's new can of worms.
Happy for you.

Makes you want to drop the tank to see the rest of it. Being a Fremont car, there may well be another one there.
That's where I found mine for the 70 442. Pretty complete too.

Most of the time the * indicates the option is part of another already included RPO for your car. eg: L75 includes the N10 dual exhaust. The CS trim automatically includes a lot of the * items you see.

This is a wonderful piece of provenance for your car. Where did you find it anyway? Most Fremont cars had them on top of the fuel tank. Other places include under the package tray. Based on the incredibly good condition of that sheet, I wonder if it was folded in half and placed under the dash somewhere? Maybe behind a trim panel? Curious as hell to know now...

Thanks Norm. And you're right, I will be researching the numbers. But for now, any options that stand out to anyone as being "uncommon" (other than the L75)?

Yep, most of the * items are standard equipment on the Supreme. There's a reason it was called that as it included so many items that were extra cost on other trim lines.

Green vinyl top?

Allan, it was tucked in under the driver seat. I posted a pic in my first post.

Here's the legend that you are nearly missing on the bottom right corner of your build sheet:

Well well well, now you have to go back to this thread you posted back when and also do some more work on the car - IF you want it to match the build sheet that is. Note your GVWR and GAWR's don't match the door sticker you created. Mebbe I'm just being too picky??

Yeah Allan I thought about that, but dunno if I'm going back down that road. That was a lot of trial and error.

Something doesn't add up..

According to my build sheet, the GVWR is 5200, but the individual weights of the front and rear total 5220. Any reason why that would be?

Most likely the standard was to round to the nearest 100 pounds? You'd need to research. Just a guess.

That's not a surprise Dave. My 72 is in the same boat - front and rear GAWR do not match the GVWR. I seriously wouldn't waste any sleep over it especially since you now have documentation from the factory about how your car was born and what it's GVWR is. 1972 was the first year those door stickers had that information. Here's another U code actual 442 (Cutlass S) from the same factory and you'll see the GAWR summation is similar to yours. Only difference is this build sheet is from an actual 442 (RPO W29 shown)

Honestly if it was me I'd redo the sticker to match the documentation. Your call though. Lol you have the experience making them now that you've done 3 of them.

Ok..Allan, you talked me into it..lol. More on that later. But for now, going back to #60 of my intro post, we discussed the SD code on the rear axle and you said the build sheet would verfiy. Well, SD is on the build sheet, so finally, after 2-1/2 yrs, can we say it's a #'s matching car?

If the engine and trans VIN stampings are correct, it is "numbers matching". Those are the only parts with VIN stampings that correlate to a specific vehicle. Everything else is merely "year correct" with nothing to say it is vehicle specific.

Yuppers 👍...I verified the VIN derivative on the engine and tranny soon after I got the car. Both match.

After an hour of trial and error, here's the final product Allan...

Dave,
What happened to the font and spacing? Although your numbers are now 100% accurate the font used is really off. Maybe I'm being too picky but here's a comparison with your first one which looks so much more original especially with that fading.

Looks much better on that one you edited. Only a concierge would notice the 4 isn't open ended. Leave it as that and call it done!

Congrats - nice find. A '72 Supreme built in Fremont has a good chance of another full bulid sheet under the rear window package tray too. I've found a couple up there as opposed to on the gas tank on my cars.

Nope...no build sheet there Terry... already checked. But I'm wondering again about the gas tank...🤔🤔🤔. A PO told me he had the tank cleaned and re lined, so I didn't think it would be there. But although I did lower the tank and took a peek with a bore scope and didn't see anything I didn't drop the tank to look. Should I?

My wagon had the fuel tank cleaned/serviced some time in the 90’s. I dropped the tank to check inside of it and found that the build sheet was still there, though I can’t remember if it was between the tank and insulation or the insulation and the underbody.
