First time installing air shocks

Hi folks, I am installing Gabriel Hijackers on my 72 cutlass.
First time ever installing air shocks, replaced many of the standard types thru the years...

The shocks do not extend anywhere close to the attach point on the rear end when I extend them by hand. Do they need to be pressurized to extend them enough?

Thanks,
Dave

No, you should be able to extend them without air. Why air shocks, are you towing?

I may be towing in the future, not sure... Plan on long trips with luggage etc... basically to level out the car when loaded.
