Hummm, wire is wire, right?

I was pulling the interior out of a 1955 Olds 98 to reach some parts for a member here when I came across this wire running to the trunk. I'm going to guess the person who did this just didn't want to make another trip to the parts store!

That should handle more than any of his fuses would have! No worries about burning through that wire!!

LOL, I've got a friend that used 12ga THHN wire to rewire his truck.

Nothing like a little improvisation... Makes you curious as to how long ago the wire was actually installed...

That romex appears to have an NEC rating of NM. I don't see a B, so that would date it about 1984 or earlier. At least that is my understanding of it.

I hope someone is recording substantial notes on the important technical aspects of this desirable piece of wire. Should raise the price quite a bit

That's the kind of wiring my grandfather would do, only in reverse. He'd substitute appliance wire for the heavier gauge electrical wiring. It cost him a small fire in the last house he lived in!

The nightmare I heard was from a friend that was helping his friend with his new Manx dune buggy. There was a electrical problem, It was the red wire. The car was wired with nothing but red wires, grounds everything was a red wire. Had to rip everything out and start over.

And some were probably getting ready to call him half-a$$.

Did that 55 have wire nuts used instead of crimp connectors or soldering? I've seen that a number of times.

The guy was probably ahead of the curve. He was in the process of wiring it up so it could be converted to a hybrid.

Yes, ready for a Tesla engine to be hooked up!
Or is it a hose for the pneumatic trunk opener that you operate via a ****, maybe?

Considering the size of a '55 Ninety-Eight perhaps he got confused since it is as big as a house...or...was going to make it an RV???
