If you could own one, and only one,
Oldsmobile,
and the price was not an object-
what would it be?
And why?
(not the one you were born in on the way to the hospital or some other personal tie, but just your favorite from the factory line up that could really be bought and owned)
For me,
one of the 51
1968 two door post Hurst Olds.
1-Because of the audacity to get around the GM 400ci limit in a mid sized before 1970
2- Because I love GM A bodies (especially 68-72)
3- Because it pains me the top of the line optioned GM A bodies were almost all or only offered in convertible or hard top, and not two door sedans.

If I could get a 62 Starfire with the drive train from a 65 Starfire, paint the outside black with red leather interior, or Burgundy with black interior, my goodness....the dream is over.....4 speed even??? Yowsers.

1) 68 W34 Toronado. 111 produced. How can you not love a 400 horsepower front wheel drive car, especially when it defined Oldsmobile's advanced engineering capacity?
2) 65 or 66 4-speed Starfire, low optioned. Big cars that haul *** are always fun.
3) 68 Hurst/Olds, for the reasons RA3 stated.

I know it wouldnt be a 70-72 442 W30, I am so sick of those cars. Seems like all the hype, press, articles, etc are about them. Like Olds never built any cars before or after.
I like my 65 F85 Club Coupe, low production, built to race, and not a lot of em left.
Id take a 71 Trans Am, right now.

Hmmm, dream Olds: a '70 or '72 Indy Pace car. Not the fastest they ever made but their styling is stunning, IMO.
Dream "car": honestly can't pick just 1. If I had the $$, I'd need to have a stable of at least 5 ('68 Charger R/T, '70 Superbird, '70 442 w30, '67 or '70 Chevelle SS, '70 GSX, '69 T/A, '87 GNX, '04 Cobra, etc....). I love cars!

I would take your 65 F85 Club Coupe, but when you are done with it. ;-)

As kjr442 says, "one only" is really too difficult. A man requires at least four or five cars just to make sure all moods are covered.

only 1
Only just one is not possible....so says the man who has owned seventy-nine .
1966 W-30; 1968 or 1969 HO; 70-72 W-30 4 speed are all excellent choices for obvious reasons.
I will throw my hat in the ring with a 1972 HO convertible but make it an X code car. Try to find one of the handful made.

Not to offend anyone, but next to last on my list would be....the 66-67 442. The GTO, GS, and Chevelle were much better looking during those 2 years.
And I always thought the F-88 was butt ugly, along with the Toronados.
My dream cars would be :
1) 1968 H/O, for evading the 400 cube rule for intermediates at GM, plus it's black and silver. Just bad *** all around.
2) 1969 H/O - most over the top Olds ever built, I love 'em.
3) 1970 W-30 hardtop 4-speed, black with gold stripes.
4) 1971 W-30 convertible in Viking Blue, 4-speed, black top and stripes.

1949-50 Oldsmobile moved Olds out of the dark ages into performance and being cool

I'd want the Olds that moved Oldsmobile out of the automotive dark ages and into performance and coolness. That is definitely the 1949-1950 Oldsmobile with the 303 V8. My choice of those would be the club coupe 88 with a standard transmission. IMHO all that followed were just updating and festooned with the latest gadgets. The next improvement that even comes close didn't happen until the 80s when car married computer and took a giant leap forward.
