Jerry Freeman 95th Birthday
Yesterday my wife, myself and my 54 Olds (Lessie) had the privilege of participating in the 95th birthday celebration for the oldest surviving former Oldsmobile dealer remaining. Jerry Freeman was an Oldsmobile dealer from 1955 until Olds ceased production. The event was held at the Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas. There were probably close to 200 people in attendance. The car was actually inside the entry to the country club as you can see from the pictures. Asleep At The Wheel was the band. If you are not into country music that will not mean anything to you. Mr. Freeman was very successful and still has about a dozen dealerships. The old gal had her night to shine and got lots of compliments. Mr. Freeman was at the Battle of The Bulge and served under General Patton. Since he as a member of the Greatest Generation I did not charge anything. I have to say it was pretty cool putting her in the lobby of the country club. She had lots of compliments. It took me a little while this morning to get all the fingerprints off but it was worth it. I have included a picture of the car inside, a picture of my wife and I with Mr. Freeman (you will notice it was a diamond and denim event) and one of the band.

Thanks Guys. It was an interesting evening. It was a little out of your normal social element and my wife and I did not know one person there but that was okay. The two most common questions were (1.) do you have other cars and (2.) do you drive the car. Heath I like your idea about telling people this is the entrance to my home and that is where I keep the car.

If I had thought of it sooner I would have borrowed one of the plates. I was waxing the car Friday morning and when I was rubbing the chrome polish off the front bumper was when I thought of it. I had my daughter make the plate and print on card stock. I am glad I thought of it because it was a big hit. I real plate would have been even better.

Money Car--circa 1962
Fran Freeman recently shared this with me. As a teen I recall this contest. My Dad and Jerry started out in the car business in Denison, TX after WW II. I saw this car on one of our many trips to Freeman Olds on Inwood. Guess how much money...win the car. Dad didn't win...
