Help with factory codes for '68 442
I have 2 questions, regading a recently purchased '68 442:
1) The '68 442 has the following codes on the fisher body plate:
Trim 944
Paint S-8
I can find the "S" in the paint code section of the factory service manual, but I can not find a reference for the "8" (My car is a convertible, so might this represent a black folding top?)
I can find nothing that matches the "944" trim number.
2) On the right side of the rear axle, there is the two letter stamp as expected. However it appears to be an "SC" that is stamped upside down? Is that to be expected and would this be correct/possible for a factory 4-speed 442 (400 motor)?
Thank you.
Jim

Trim 944 = willow gold interior with strato bucket seats.
S-8 = Jade gold exterior color (S) with a gold convertible top (8).
SC = 3.08 open differential with drum brakes. It's not unusual to be stamped upside down. My "SD" is stamped upside down, too! It's definitely correct for a 4-spd car - as I recall, that was the standard rear end for a 442. The anti-spin axle, as well as disc brakes, were options.
All '68 442s came with 400 engines. Only the Hurst Olds came with a 455 in the "A" body line.
Enjoy your car. They are a lot of fun!
