Real 442?

Real 442?
Looking at an ad for a 68 442 Convertible. Shows the trim tag # as 68-33667. On my 67 Cutlass the 36 designates a non- Supreme. 38 would be a Cutlass Supreme. In 67, all 442's were Supremes. Is this true of 68"s?

For the '68 model year, the proof that the car is a true 4-4-2 is in the VIN. The trim tag will show "36" but, if the car is a real 4-4-2 convertible, the VIN will start with 344678. If the VIN starts with 336678, it's a clone.

If it's a Lansing built car it will have a cutlass trim tag but the vin tag will start with "344" for a real 442. This only applies to Lansing cars, The other plants used the 344 on the trim tag. 33667 is a convert,33677 would be a post coupe,& 33687 would be a hardtop.

Every Olds assembly plant used 336xxx cowl tags for at least part of the 1968 model year. Most went with them well into the 1969 model year. Lansing was the last plant to change to 344xxx tags. This is extremely well documented in factory literature and has been asked here about once every three months or so.
