Retractable 3 point front seat belts > Who has installed them in their classic ??

Looking for people who have modified their 2 front belt system to a single 3 point modern retractable seat belt system.

I think Gary's 68 did one but I'm looking for success stories, and pics showing what you used.
Any input is appreciated.

The 2 belt system in my 1970 442 clone is somewhat annoying to deal with since the upper belt doesn't budge once it's strapped to the buckle.
I've seen systems like these

Doing interior stuff when it's cold there in Chicago?
I bought a pair off ebay. Lots cheaper. If you want the drop sash, go a couple inches longer than I did. Mine come across my neck a little too high if I dont wear a collar.
I've got a source for the right angle base mounts too.

Nooooo not doing it now.....too damn cold.
I'm putting my parts lists together for the Spring cleaning and LS completion.

I'm doing a new AAW Highway 22 harness , new seat belts, and new LED Gauges.

YES I DO !!!! I definitely would prefer something that allows it to NOT choke
me out while driving. So a drop sash......where do I acquire one of these ,
and is it universal ??

I'd really love to find a 3 point retractable set that's dark enough of a green to somewhat match my interior.
You got pics of your setup I can see how you attached it to the roof ??? That's the big thing i'm curious about.

I originally planned on mounting the aftermarket belt mount to the roof position. That was way too high on my neck. I used the old top belt (it had never been used) to make a drop sash and sew it over the dismantled aftermarket top belt mount. After putting a couple thousand miles on it, I realized it would be a little more comfortable if I had made it a couple inches longer.
Mine were black, so it was easy to match the aftermarket to original belts. You might want to order something cheap like matching non-retractable belts to cut up and make a drop sash that matches the rest of the belt. When I ordered mine, I got a pair of non retractable lap only belts for the rear seat. They were only about $25.
Note: If you sew anything up, you must use UV resistant thread.
And a good source for seat belt hardware.

Gary, you're inspiring to see what kind of work you can do.
You are above my level with your resourcefulness and abilities.

You go boy.
Alright, I think I'm going with Andover Restraints for $180 for the pair.
I read it incorrectly because it's not very clear that it's for a set , not a single seat.

I had a thread going on Chevelles.com for faster input.

Dont forget, the roof mount is held in place by 2 small bolts. They're too small to hold the typical single bolt seat belt end. You'll need some kind of adapter.

3-point seat belt for 1968-72 cutlass convertibles

I have the same dilemma now that I just purchased a 1970 cutlass supreme convertible (442 clone). I found a few suppliers online and I might like to have a shop installing them. I prefer to shed some extra $$$ and have it done professionally for safety reasons of course.

Seatbelt Thread Resurrection

I have searched all of the threads for 3-point seatbelt kits for my '71 and it appears that this one would work the best for my needs:

http://www.andoauto.com/1968-72_Chevelle_Seat_Belts.htm

Front Coupe/Hardtop Retrofit Retractable Lap Belt With Shoulder Harness Kits

W8455 Series: Front Retrofit Kit. Bucket Seat. 8" DPE. Fits coupe/hardtop.2 persons/positions kit.

Has anyone on CO installed this kit in their 68-72 Cutlass (or any A-Body) and if so, are you happy with it and does it work? I am liking the 8" drop sash...

If anyone has used anything else let me know.

Thanks,

Google Morris Classic Concepts, they make them for Chevelles, should be the same for Cutlass/442. I actually talked to him yesterday, asked if i could send him my original Deluxe BIG buckles to make 3 point belts. He said no problem, wants me to send him a picture of the buckles and belts. It will cost somewhere between 350 and 400 bucks for both fronts. Seems a little pricey but worth it to me, and I can keep my original Big stainless buckles. Hes really a stand up guy, I read some of his post on a Chevelle forum, some had some problems with his belts. He chimed in and asked what are the problems? Said he will correct any problems for free and redesign anything needed. Its a family run business, he was really helpful and nice on the phone.

A pair of front belts http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mr...bkbs/overview/

Not cheap, but one of the only improvements you can do to make your car safer in the event of an accident. Many options to help prevent one (better tires, suspension, brake upgrades etc), but once you're past the point of no return, not much you can do.

To be perfectly honest, I've got less than $100 in mine and am really happy with them. But I wouldn't think twice about spending $300 to keep my face intact regardless of how ugly I am.
If you do piece together something, make sure everything is good quality hardware.

Seats which have integral belts have seat structures which are designed to take the load in case of an accident. The structures used in the GM A bodies are not designed for the loads. They would fold and you would face plant into the windshield.

Morris Classic Concept Seat Belts - comfort level

Would be very keen to see a photo of someone sitting in the car with the belt on if you ever had the opportunity. I'd just like to be sure that I'm making the right choice before getting a set shipped to Australia. Any guidance here would be great. Thanks.

I like the Morris belts a lot, just drove 3500 miles on Power Tour, 2 guys, both over 6' tall, very comfortable wearing the belts.

Thanks, for the feedback. All the evidence indicates that Morris Classic Concept are certainly good belts and bolt straight in. Very helpful people too from the contact I've had with them.
