1972 Cutlass S Build
#7
Color is Radiant Green, original color for this S. It’s a Basecoat/Clearcoat conversion of the original. White sealer with 5 coats color and 3 coats clear. I’ve got info on the black just not at the moment. The original 350 SBO is rebuilt and balanced. Supposed to arrive this week. It has a hydraulic roller cam, TRW flat tops and worked #5 heads. Using a upgraded TH-350 and a rebuilt rear with 3.42 posi. Wheels are from Year One. Has a 1” drop in front and 1/2 drop in rear. Frame is completely rebuilt along with steering and suspension.

Will be doing a lot of work on the 72 Cutlass S over the break. Core Support and the doors came in Sunday night. Core Support put together, Latch w/Linkage and Handle installed all torqued to factory standard.

I run it out the top, I measure full suspension travel so the line doesn't go into tension. I use some black zip ties to route the line and then run the line to the interior of the frame. I make sure the line is routed so it can't be compressed.

Very nice build, I too have a 72 in Radiant Green. My core support is in rough shape from the battery. What did you do for the core support? Did you replace it and if you did, where did you get one? I cannot seem to find one. Thanks in advance

Doing a blacked out grille theme. Have acouple of ribs broken on the RH side. Once I get them back, I'll take some plastic, paint it black and epoxy them in.
I will be polishing the aluminum trim and install to the grilles.
Not sure I'll use the Oldsmobile script, I like the idea of just using the center Rocket logo and keep it simple.

no1oldsfan: It is a white interior. Black dash, black carpet, white buckets & rear seat, white headliner & sail panels. Black console w/Dual Gate. I have the custom gauges sitting in the modded 8-track receiver. I have a Rally Pack. Planning on a Vintage Air AC system and using Siless Sound Deadening and Heat Insulation for the doors, floor, firewall, roof and trunk. All new interior for the most part.

Just another data point here.
Back in 1990 or so I debated and chose to replace the tarpaper underlay with the similar stuff. Living in Phoenix where it’s 115 in the summer I can say the heat coming from below is not so much an issue, it’s the sun from above or the ambient air. My feet have never felt hot from heat coming from below, as it did with my friends 1975 Corvette. . And with a convertible the road sound from below is also not an issue, the noise is mostly wind noise from above, and I have not found solution to that yet.

Body to Frame alignment question. Currently, the rear hole is in perfect alignment, fore/aft and cross/car. Checking the front hole, the cross/car is perfect, Ihe body is about 1/3 of the hole diameter forward from the frame hole orientation. Should I set the front hole perfect (moving it rearward) and let the rear float (maintaining a perfect cross/car) or try to center the fore/aft as close as I can front and rear. I'm thinking I should try to do the former rather than the latter as I have fender alignment coming up... Appreciate thoughts especially from those who have done this. Thanks!
