Fat Ladies Need Love Too 1966 98 LS
Ok so my son-in-law is a car guy also and saw all my projects as I worked on them and decided he wanted a big old boat. Of course I coaxed him toward an Olds and found this 66 98 near Woodstock NY. 47 Thou original miles, 425 Sfire engine, posi rear, power windows, tilt wheel, its a LS. Its not a cream puff for sure but with a little attention and some fresh paint it could be a nice driver. Too bad the seller let it sit outside for at least the last 10 years. He said more important cars took up all the garage space.... Yes it runs nice, has brakes, lights, and most everything works! Originally paint code J, green with what I believe was a white vinyl top. Its not loaded, non tinted glass, standard AC, power windows, AM-FM radio. So I was Jonesing for another car and got the best situation possible. I give direction and guidance and someone else does most of the wrench turning, labor, garaging and funding! Don't know when up dates will be coming but I am excited as with any new project!

Yeah the tow was fine...170 miles or so and UHaul site said the tow would work...I was a bit surprised also. Not sure but I think the LS is top of the line 98?

LS (Luxury Sedan) was top of the heap from 1963 thru 1972, when the Regency supplanted it. Couple years it could even have a ne plus ultra Royale interior.
I inherited Mama's 66 LS till I got the 442 and one of my buds said LS meant "lotsa seats". Car had more gadgets than a contemporary spacecraft.

Nice catch! Starfire engine option and Anti-Spin as well. Please show pictures of the rear seat area, with the vanity mirror and the grab handles. That is a really nice feature on the LS series. We were a bit skeptical when U-haul said it would be alright to use one of their trailers to go 650-miles and pick up our own 1966 Ninety-Eight LS in Elkhorn, Wisconsin a few years back. The trailer behaved very well behind our truck. There were some things wrong with the trailer, but this thread is not about this. Really hoping to see progress on this large Oldsmobile, nice to know another will be gracing the roads soon. These are very elegant and surprisingly quick for the period automobiles.

My son-in-law got busy and ordered a vinyl top and plans on installing it himself, hmmm will see how that goes. but 1st the front and back glass need to be removed and rot repaired. The front glass is out and a few minor rot holes were found in the channel. I was surprised to see the factory shot heavy metal staples into the channel to secure the vinyl top. A parts car was purchased to supply some needed parts for the project. The parts car pictured is really a turd, all banged up, rotted, molested. no saving that one.

How to figure out if your 98 is a LS or not
I have a 1970 98 convertible and there is only the 98 designation on the car.

All LS cars were 4door. The LS badge was on each sail panel, the interior had a different upholstery pattern than the other 98's. And the Model number on the trim tag would tell. I am not sure of that designation though.

All 63-70 Ninety Eight LS are four doors, so a convertible cannot be an LS. Some years are true hardtops, others are what is called a pillared hardtop- frameless door glass with a B pillar. A Luxury Coupe appeared in 1971 and wore LS badging. In 1972, the Regency appeared and LS became the lower trim level of Ninety Eight.

Not much progress is happening with the 98. At the swaps and ebay I have been picking up some moldings (potmetal) that were pitted. Have found a hood lip molding, trunk lid molding, trunk script, fender badges, hood center molding, all nos. We also replaced the turn signal switch that I was fortunate to have nos in my stash. Quite the job that was, rounded up the proper tool for that! It does have the tilt/tele wheel. My son in law acquired a TR3 that had been in his family and decided to rescue that which has taken up most of his free time along with his 1st child being born this month, guess I need not say any more...
