1968 Olds 98 radio replacement
On my 1968 Olds 98 that I recently purchased, its time to replace the radio since it does not work. I have found replacements on ClassicCarSteroes. To remove the old radio, do I remove the 10 screws that are around the dash. I also see that the two ***** on the A/C controls would have to be pulled off. is there any other precautions I need to take before I start this project.

You should be able to R&R the radio from behind the dash without taking the front trim panel off, as the radio comes out from behind the dash. Do you have a 1968 Olds factory shop book?
Pull the ***** off the radio, then you can remove the shaft nuts and faceplate. You may have to remove glovebox liner or a/c ductwork to access the radio. Once that's out the way, remove any remaining nuts from radio shafts, disconnect antenna lead and any wiring, and lower the radio out from behind the dash.
What type radio you looking at to replace it? Might be tough to find another shaft mount aftermarket. Factory options were AM-only, AM-FM mono and AM-FM stereo multiplex. 8 track available with all radios.

Type of radio
Thanks Rocketraider for the info.
This is model 740 from Classic Car Stereo (classiccarstereo.com) built specifically for 1961-1975 Oldsmobiles. It has Bluetooth built into it.
If I did want to remove the dashboard to swap the fuel gage cluster, any guidance on the removal?

I've never done that on a 67-68 dash but pretty sure the fuel gage comes out from behind too. The HVAC ***** don't have to come off to pull the carrier assembly but will have to disconnect its wiring and vacuum harnesses, along with light, wipers and ignition switch and clock/lighter wiring.
Joe P has had dash apart in his 67 so can offer guidance. But the whole process is in the CSM. Good luck!
