1970 convertible chattering dash
Hi guys,
My '70 convertible dashboard makes quite a squeaky, chattering noise when going over mild bumps or rough pavement.
Is there something that can be done?
Thanks,
John

Two common issues...
Make sure the radio is supported from the rear. Most aftermarket installers ignore this. A bracket can be fabbed if there is no support.
Also, the air duct to the center A/C vent often gets loose in A-body models, as the foam pad between it and the ash tray deteriorates. Not sure if your model has a similar setup.
Make sure the A/C box parts are secure and all screws are there and secure. The main plenum was sealed with 2 screws and foam tape in A-bodies and it comes loose over age.
Lastly, check for other loose stuff when under there, to see if a PO crammed extra junk up in there...

Does it make the noise with top up and securely latched, or all the time? Top frame is part of structural rigidity on these cars, so if it only does it with the top down, I'd chalk it up to age.
After 40 years I'd say the old girl is entitled to a few squeaks and rattles!
Other than the stuff Rob and Yellow mentioned, you're probably gonna get into some disassembly to find what's squeaking.

Some cars could benefit from a light smear of grease on the hood bumper near the windshield. Not sure if your car has this, but would be worth a try. The 80's G bodies had this issue a lot.
Surprisingly, my vert has less sqeaks with the top down.
You can sometimes drum the dash lightly with your fist to track down some bigger rattles.
