59 98 394
l have 2 1959 Olds 98 4dr sedans , one is for parts , one I'm restoring, both have numbers matching 394's , l think , one is a 2bbl and the other is a 4bbl. My question is what is the power rating difference on the two ? was it an option ? The one I'm restoring has more options , was that a factor ?, Thanks any info would be appreciated.

You will find Oldsmobile engine spec info here ==> https://oldsjunction.classicoldsmobi...949%20-%201964

And there is no numbers that match on a first generation Oldsmobile> they didn't start that till around 1965. There are serial number ranges that would be somewhere in the area of a engine to body year but it would not match the vin number....Tedd

I believe all 394's came with a 4 barrel from the factory, so the 2 barrel was probably put on later for better fuel economy. No number matching engines back then, so no guarantees this motor came with the car when new. As long as it's a 394, for all intensive purposes it's original if you ever got it judged

You could get it with the carb/manifold of your choice, low compression or high. Just check the box when ordering your car. All 98 were considered top of the line I don't think options other than how you ordered made the difference in 2bbl or 4bbl..... Tedd
