64 Ninety Eight How to Remove Vent Window Crank

I need to know how to remove the hand crank for the vent window on my 64 ninety eight?

Any tips or previous threads?

The manual is very obscure about this.
thanks

There is a inexpensive window and door handle clip remover that can be purchased at most automotive parts stores. Just be careful when removing the handle not to loose the clip. You slide the clip between the handle and the plastic backing that is touching the inside door pad, and then rotate the tool until it contacts the handle clip. Give it a gentle nudge, and the clip will be dislodged and the handle can be pulled off. Some cars use a spring between the vinyl door panel and the inner metal panel to keep it rattle free. Just note the order of the parts when you remove them, and reassemble the same way as they came off.
Also, when you put the handle back on, it should be oriented in a downward position when the window is closed, so road vibrations will not move the handle to open the window.

Thanks for the tip on re installation. I got it off with a flat head, but am going to buy the tool tomorrow.

I took the door panel off because my window got stock in the down position. I had to take the motor off of the sprocket, pull the window up, and re assemble. Seems to be working but I'll test in the am.

Sure wish that you had said something about this being a power window with a motor problem, when you asked how to remove the vent window handle!!! You can loose your fingers when you take the motor off of the regulator unless you first pin the regulator together. Below are the instructions from a 1961 Chevrolet factory service manual. I am certain that the Oldsmobile manual has the same warnings, and instructions. Be very careful handling the regulator at this point, because it can be like a hand grenade if it comes apart. I have seen the damage first hand (no pun intended) that can happen when you don't follow the pinning instructions. Sometimes, the only way to save the fingers is to put them into formaldehyde...

The vent window is a hand crank. I had to reset the big window motor.
This is a much better drawing than what I was looking at

After re-reading that, it looks like these instructions are for the actual window... not the vent window??

Something must be different on my car, because the PO said he had to do this whenever the window got stuck down. I followed his instructions that he's followed a couple times... so... ???

He also said he thinks the wrong spring was put in the car because the window goes up and down super fast...

Has anyone else had their window go up and down really quickly?

Would the wrong size counter balance spring cause this?

I would say that the spring might be shot, and that is why you didn't loose your fingers, and the window is super fast. The spring gives resistance to slow the window so no one gets their hand caught in the glass.

A wrong spring would cause movement to be slow one way and fast the other.

I have seen new motors that have too high a torque or too high a speed.
While this may sound good, in reality it is bad. The sudden stops at the ends of travel strips gear teeth in record time and can break rivets and other joints.
Mine are fast and caused many probs.

The spring has been replaced, that's why I wonder if it's the wrong one

The spring only assists in the up movement. The weight of the window assists with down.
A strong spring would make the window fast to go up, but slower to go down. A weak one will be fast to go down but slower to go up.
In an ideal world, if the counterbalance is just right, one could remove the motor from the regulator while assembled int he car and the window would not move at all.
Is is fast both ways? Did you replace the motor?

it is fast both ways.
I am not sure if the motor is new or not... it sure looks clean though, so maybe...

BTW, the window was down when I took the motor off.
