Interior colors

I am going to change the interior color as I re do it all. Everything needs replaced, so I'm going white. It appears that the portion of dash between pad and windshield and the steering column and wheel are black from the factory.
Did the factory do these in black reguardless of the factory interior color? I would assume the dash was, to avoid glare, but are all columns and wheels black? OH, the car is a 65 98 covert.

Not always. Black is a good anti glare color, but so are darker tones like navy blue, dark green, garnet red etc.

The Factory avoided using high reflectivity colors for exactly the reason you thought. Even cars with white interiors typically got black dashes and steering columns. There are lots of great examples on the web.

Here's a great example of a 62 Ninety Eight that was at our club show last year. The dash interior is a low sheen med brown and the lower panel and column is accent color keyed. Keep in mind this is for 62, not 65.

Thanks Allan, the reason I ask, my original interior is light blue, the top of dash is black, but steering wheel and column are black also. Dashpad is a dark blue. I just gotta decide if I leave column and wheel black, or paint them white. Pretty sure column is original, just don't know if they colored steering wheels to match in 65 or not.

Hummmm, they may have had several different combinations. I've got a 1964 F85 and it's all blue, dash, dashpad, steering wheel & column. Whatever you think looks good. It might be easier to leave it the way it is if the paint on the various parts are in good shape. It can be a lot of work to take things apart so you can paint the metal part of the dash and column. You mean a bit like this?

Just my opinion, but if the rest of the interior is shades of blue? The black works with it. I don't think white works. Try looking for an original 65 ninety eight with a white column and dash. Bet you don't find one. If I'm wrong you can have a cold one on the house!

Even this red vert has black dash pad with the balance of the lower dash color keyed to the interior. I think the black/blue combo is the way to go.

Your right Allan, I found an image of a white interior, entire dash and column was black. I also found a red one where entire dash and column was red. I am just going to do dash and column all black, the rest of interior all white. Thanks for suggestions. I didn't think I could find so many images on line.
