In my opinion no one carries a good kit. Your choices are either warehouse variety rebuild kits with pistons that have incorrect pin heights or the speed pro (flat top pistons ) kit if its even available anymore. I would piece it together because the kits have a few good parts and parts that are not so good. Get the right part for the right use. Like dura bond cam bearings , melling oil pump , probe pistons etc etc.

Wow. So basically going to my local NAPA and ordering a engine rebuild kit will do more harm than good? Now that I finally get a mechanic who has the time to do the work I have no place to get a good rebuild kit.

Depending on your goals it might not be the best choice. Even for the most modest goals they come up short on compression for the parts store rebuild kits. You might be able to get the speed pro rebuild kit through napa it has flat top pistons .
