What type of carb to get
I'm searching craigslist for a rebuilt or fairly new quadrajet to place on a Performer RPM. I'm assuming I'd need something with an electric choke or a carb that I can convert to electric choke. What carb could I use for this application? I was told a 4MV could not be converted to electric choke.

Any carb with the integral choke (big round black plastic thing on the side, '70 and later) can be used with an electric choke.
Divorced choke carbs ('69 and earlier) cannot.
Of course, there's always a manual choke...

I'd rather use an electric choke so I dont have to mess with it.
So the climate controlled (heat) or automatic choke mounted on the carb could be converted to an electric choke. Like this one?

Yes - the 80's CCC carbs have electric chokes that go right on.
Check Hemmings for a rebuilder close to you - he might have a direct replacement, or want to do your core.
IMO - the biggest problem with Q-jets is the throttle shafts - leak vacuum when worn.
Bushings fix that, and once set-up correctly, need no maintainence.

i recommend a 704-series carb. as opposed to a 1705-series carb. primary metering rods with the correct taper, and power piston springs are much harder to come by for the 1705-series.
