Tips on Applying Valve Cover Decals

I was just going to use a spray bottle with water and soap so I can move around before locking them in. Any thoughts?

Yes good idea, also seperate the Oldsmobile from the Rocket to make it easier, especially since the decals go on top of a raised stamped surface.

I have done quite a few decals on boats and cars and a spray bottle of dishwashing detergent will work. It doesn't have to be real strong. That is a good suggestion Dan gave you about separating the Rocket from Oldsmobile. I did a set of these on the 54 I had and they held up really well.

The decals hold up well. At the factory they actually painted the letters with a roller.

They look great! You may be able to put a clear coat over them to help seal and protect.

I never clear coated mine and they held up very well. I doubt it would hurt but probably not necessary. You would need to use heat resistant clear coat.

...and that's a wrap! All done. Thanks for all the comments, probably won't try to clear coat them.

Great Job, really looks like a professional job.

@redoldsman thanks for mentioning using a roller at the factory.

I also put mine on one letter at a time. They are holding up very well. I also painted the intake manifolds with temperature and color correct paint. But the intakes already have discolored between the second and third spark plugs on both sides. I wonder why.

You need to put a decal on the front of that batwing air cleaner. Fusick has them and I think they come in two different colors for different years. It would be a nice touch.

Oh yeah, did it about a month ago. I had to completely strip the air cleaner as it crackled on me during painting. It turned out pretty nice.
