Carburetor

I have been rebuilding the quadrajet on my car and my engine came out of a 1974 Delta 98. Just for kicks I was looking at the numbers on the carb and they appear to be out of a car with a manual transmission. Will that cause me any trouble in mine with an automatic? The numbers are 7043251 RB 0044

I think in Cliff Ruggles book he says the odd number usually denotes a manual transmission application. usually is the key word there. This does not apply to Oldsmobile. This is another piece of misinformation that never seems to die, similar to the headers not fitting the 70-72 Cutlass Supreme. The 7043251 was used on every 4bbl 455 in 1973.

This odd-even myth just will not die. My manual trans 1970 W30 came from the factory with a 7040256 carb. My 1969 H/O with TH400 came with a 7029251 carb. Every 455 with a 4bbl installed in an Olds full size came with a '251 carb and a TH400, period. Don't believe everything you read on the interwebs.
