Pine Tree Sap Removal

What is the best way to get pine tree sap off the paint?
I also have some on the rear window of the convertible top.
I have tried blue dawn and goof off. its better.. still lingering sap residue.

Tree sap is a water based compound. Hot water and soap.

Pine sap is bad. Fresh tar and chipped roads are the ultimate nightmare.

Turpentine works great on chrome.

Personally, I use rubbing (isopropyl, 1-propanol) alcohol to remove pine (resin) sap.

Koda - Interesting you should mention turpentine (and, like you I don't know if it would work on paint - there are so many various paint finishes these days.) None-the-less, my point being turpentine is actually derived from/produced from pine resin/sap - it is a terpene. Turpentine may very well work, as well. BTW, pine sap (either the resin or the rosin, pitch) is not soluble in water.

Ice will.

One of the great understated powers of the world is a stocked 50 year old garage. There is stuff there that does wonders, with side effects if not used cautiously. Carbon tetrachloride, DDT, liquid diazinon, chlorax, gunpowder, insect powders of yesteryear, raw turpentine, acids, solvents, all sorts of fun stuff. Hell, I even have some mercury, no idea what to do with that other than a recoil tube in a gun stock.

Regular tree sap comes off with water line Sap can be pretty thick. Actually showed our porter how to clean sap yesterday oddly enough. Wax and grease remover for automotive paint also works well and you can buy a cheap gallon of the stuff at most any parts store sometimes quarts.

Wax and tar remover should get it off. Might also try some Pine-Sol or Lestoil which both contain pine products.

Course the best solution is not park under or near the offending pine tree.

As an aside you might want to check in with your local fire station. They are constantly cleaning their equipment with something that might be universal. I do remember though when I was a kid in the mid fifties that the firemen used Kerosene.

Just a thought.

I cannot imagine smearing margarine all over my car. It would take a lot of scrubbing to get that off the car.

Kerosene is a damn useful thing. I may buy a flamethrower here soon.

Koda you think like me. Goof off will work so will lighter fluid for your Zippo if anyone uses a Zippo any more. Then there is BBQ lighter fluid it's just low grade paint thinner. Most any slow dry solvent should work.... Just my thoughts... Tedd

Rubbing alcohol. I use it at the shop all the time. Won't hurt paint. Soak a clean soft cloth and lightly rub it off. Works great. New fresh razor blade for overspray and sap on glass.
