Emblem Removal

I've stripped my 69 Cutlass of all trim and sending it into the shop to be repainted this week. I have noticed that the 442 does not have the trim that runs the width of the trunk. Personally I think it is a much cleaner look and am considering leaving mine off. I would think welding the holes would be the best route to go but am wondering if the heat will warp the metal and create waves. The same with the F and R Olds logo. I am not making a 442 Tribute but just think it's a cleaner look. Has anyone done this and if so how did you, and how did it come out. I just don't want to make a mess and regret doing it.

thanks,
Steve

Steve, I had my trunk done like that and it came out fine. FYI I know you're not making a 442 clone, but a 442 actually does have a very thin stainless molding at the bottom of the lid that's missing off a lot of cars.Fusick sells a repro and I think I have an original that's been straightened and polished here if you decide to go that route.

If not done correctly, yes it is very possible to warp the panels. Be sure the welding is done by someone who has a clue about welding thin sheet metal.
